Topic Research: The Great Devine Mother

After reading the feedback given to me about my research last week and the four different options for topics I provided, I continued to be drawn back in by one, Gandhari. As mentioned before, Gandhari was the Princess of Gandhara and married a blind man and to honor him became "blind" herself.

The first story about Gandhari I think of telling is about her relationship to her husband, Dhritarashtra. A blind man she respected so much she put on a mask for the rest of her life to be blind just like him. This story would tell about their relationship including the straying of Dhritarashtra to Gandhari's maid with whom he would have a child with in frustration with his actual wive's pregnancy.

Another story could be focused on Gandhari's 100 sons and the pain she had to endure loosing all of them in a single war, against their cousins. Is it also said that the only time Gandhara took off her blind fold was to look at her oldest, Duryodhana, in which with just one glance she gave all her power to him. One part of his body was covered during this transaction and the enemy would end up killing him there. Duryodhana would come to be known as the son who blinded her the most of his flaws.

A third story would be about Gandhari's revenge on Krishna as she was very upset with him for allowing such a war in which she lost all of her sons. She cursed Krishna's city and people and they were destroyed in a matter of years. This would also cause the Golden City, Dwarka, to fall. After the curse the story turns to Gandhari along with her husband, brother and sister-in-law, and them living out the rest of their lives in the Himalayan Mountains.
