Reading Notes: PDE Ramayana Part A

The first part of the story of Rama had a lot going on! We are introduced to Rama's father, King Dasharatha, who has four wives in which none of them have feared any children. The King needs children and vows to sacrifice a horse. His wives re thrilled and agree to partake in the ceremony. Vishnu the Preserver heard of this and decided to help by dividing himself up and become the four sons. Once the sons were born there was one in which stuck out and Vashishtha and he was convinced Rama was the one who possessed Vishnu.

Later on Vashishtha, Rama and Lakshmana set out on a 10 day journey where the boys would turn into men. Along the way they faced a few enemies but of course it was nothing that Rama could not defeat. The men came upon a city in which Rama and his brother Lakshmana decided to explore. While walking along the streets people were in awe of Rama including the daughter King Janaka, Sita. The King would go on to approve the two to get married but only once Rama proved he was worthy by competing for Sita. Rama proved his worth.

Rama was beloved by many and so much so an entire population wanted him to be their ruler (not King Janaka). The current ruler was not happy with this and forced Rama out of the city. Sita forbidding to leave the side of her husband went on the journey with him and Lakshama. The two men promised each other they would not let anything to happen to Sita or each other during the journey. Mean while the boy's father, Dasharatha died.
