Reading Notes: More Jataka Tales Pt. A

As I continue to read the Jataka Tales I am enjoying them even more and more! Each story has a different problem that needs to be solved and one of my favorite aspects is that when it is solved some of the reasoning behind it. Like in the last story in part a about the otters and the wolf where the wolf vouches for having the body of a fish because that was his pay from the otters for settling their disagreement. Also in the woodpecker and the lion where the lion is very wise and when asked by the woodpecker for a favor he knew he would not be able to resist but eat the woodpecker and was fair by saying no.

A couple of the tales have a similar story line has other tales such as Little Red Riding Hood and the Three Little Pigs. I am not sure which came first but the wisdom and the foolishness in all provide great lessons, honestly whatever age you are. The tale of the rats and the wolf reminded me of Little Red Riding Hood when the wolf was giving excuses for why he was on his hind legs ore had his mouth wide open.
