Thoughts On A Growth Mindset

Prior to this assignment I had not heard of Professor Carol Dweck and nor the idea of a Growth Mindset. Like anything else that has the opportunity of having a TED talk on it her idea and research are worth hearing and thinking about. I come from a background and still share the thought that participation trophies are unhealthy and have a negative effect on society. In the beginning I felt as if Dwecks ideas were in favor of handing out participation trophies but while I continued to watch I realized it is not. Her research was very telling and the results were wonderful when education approached kids in a Growth Mindset manor but there is a VERY fine line between it and participation trophies. If the Growth Mindset is not gone about exactly the correct way it can easily turn into a participation trophy mindset and that does not have positive results. 

As more and more educators begin to possibly adapt to Dweck's ideas in the classroom we need to be careful in controlling how far it is taken.
