Week 5 Story: Queen Sita
Rama had his beloved wife back, finally, after fighting a fierce battle against Ravana and he finally felt back to being himself! Without Sita, Rama felt empty and emotionally lost. Sita was also overjoyed as she could not stop thanking the Gods for a husband who loved her so much.
“Sita, I was lost without you. I pray no such trial again! Now it is our time. It is time to go back to our city and take our rightful place on the throne as King and Queen” said Rama.
“You will be the King of Kings, Rama. You will have loyal followers as well as myself by your side until it is our time to leave this earth” expressed Sita.
Rama and Sita set on their journey back to marvelous city of Ayodhya. After 14 years the two of them were finally coming out of the woods. Sita hoped they would be welcomed back with open arms and to finally start a family. She understood the role she was expected to play as Queen but wanted to do more.
As their chariot flew into the city crowds of people were lined the streets cheering as they had been waiting for their rightful king for 14 years. Rama and Sita were completely taken back by this welcoming and the butterfly's in both of their stomachs settled.
As the two pulled up to the castle and small gentleman came out from behind the guards, “Welcome home King Rama. We are delighted to have you back where you rightfully belong. And welcome Queen Sita, the most beautiful of all queens in all of the kingdoms!”
“Hello, we are thrilled to be back. Who are you?” questioned Rama.
“I am the royal aid, Shana. I will be your right hand man and of assistance in all things.”
“Pleased to meet you, Shana. We look forward to having you by my side through the remaining of our journey” said Rama.
----
As the first few months went by, Sita became at home with her new surroundings. She was being dressed in the finest of jewels and the most premium of silks. She became pregnant and Rama could not have been thrilled to be a father.
Even with the excitement of becoming a mom, Sita was sharing her opinions on politics and events with Rama. It quickly became clear Sita was running the show.
“Sita, what do you think of I should right back to the general?” asked Rama.
“What are you doing, Rama? You know you don't write the official letters! Move over” exclaimed Sita. She may have been 9 months pregnant but that did not mean she was backing down from the royal duties… especially the ones her husband was not qualified to carry out.
----
The twins had been born and the kingdom was coming up on their 2nd birthday celebration. Sita was completely running the show in Ayodhya and Rama was becoming ill.
“My dear Sita, as my days become shorter and shorter I have no doubt in the leader you are for our people” whispered Rama.
“Thank you Rama. You have been a wonderful husband and father to our sons. I will never re-marry as no one can replace you.”
Rama passed away shortly after and the kingdom was fully put in control of Sita. She became the known as the Queen of Kings as no other ruler came close to her leadership.
Authors Note: This story is much different than what I am used to writing and so I apologize or the choppy-ness of it. I wanted the story of Sita returning back to Ayodhya to turn out differently and I thought how cool it would be to make her queen. I am not the best writer but wanted to include some main points without just jumping to Sita being the full time ruler without Rama. I have also never written a story that had such a drawn out timeline.
Rama and Sita return home and I decided to briefly introduce a new character, Shana, the royal aid. I also included Sita being pregnant with the boys and there you will begin to see she is also starting to control much of the royal duties Rama should be taking care of. This story kind of shows Rama not as the leader we once thought he was. In the third part Rama becomes ill but due to Sita having done so much for the kingdom already she did not have much of a problem transitioning into full time ruler. I chose for there not to be backlash from the city of Sita becoming queen because I mean why couldn't she rule?
This was a great story! I really liked how you gave us an alternative perspective of Sita. I think in the Ramayana she is loyal but we don't truly get to see her shine as Rama does. This story allowed us to see how important she is and that she is not just a wife to Rama but also capable of doing more, like running the Kingdom. (Side note: I was kind of confused in the the last half section after the first break, where Rama asked Sita about the letters. I think you put right instead of write?) I didn't think it was choppy! I liked how you took us more through a story than a specific instance.
ReplyDeleteHi Madison,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your story greatly, I love that you gave Sita the spotlight. I think that your transitioning was great and touched on the important points briefly without bouncing around too much. There are a few places where I think that a good proofread could be beneficial. As mentioned by Joshua, I think you accidentally said "Right" instead of write and a few sentences would flow better if they were worded differently. Such as, "Sita became at home with her new surroundings" might be better written as "Sita began feeling at home..." But other than that, it is fantastic and I definitely think you are a better writer than you believe.
Hi Madison,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your story! I love your focus on Sita and your story really shined a light on her more than the original. I like the creative take on it because I think Sita is such an important character and is often over shadowed by Rama in the original epic! Theres a few typos but over all great story!!
Hi Madison! I like how Sita was able to do everything her heart desired in the kingdom. She was able to become Queen even with two young boys. Sita didn't get that much glory and positive attention in the Ramayana so it was nice to read something that gave made her character awesome. Good job!
