Reading Notes: Sita Sings the Blues Part A
Sita Sings the Blues, at least so far in part A, is very much focused on Sita being kidnapped by Ravana after his sister, Shurpanakha, convinced he needed Sita as his wife. She pumped Sita up by saying every part of her body was like a lotus flower. This film has multiple different types of elements to it as well as animation styles. I personally am enjoying the version in which Sita sings the blues songs. It is all very obvious Sita is incredibly in love with Rama! She was taken against her will and the fact Rama is coming to save her just puts him on even more of a pedestal in her mind. There are three characters in another type of animation who are discussing among themselves the story of Sita and Rama's relationship and her being kidnapped then Rama going to find her. One thing I did noticed, when talking about Rama and Sita going into the woods for 14 years was that they did not include Rama's brother, Lakshmana, being with them on the journey. Once Rama does get to Lanka and kills Ravana to save Sita he rejects her as he believe she has not been loyal to him. We can all tell this is not the case as Sita is shown as being completely obsessed with Rama. Sita walks her self through a fire to prove she did not stray from Rama while away.
While these two animation series is going on telling the same story, there is another storyline taking place. This storyline is between a man and woman who lives in San Francisco and the man moves off the India for his job. After a month of not contacting his wife or girlfriend, not sure what the exact title of their relationship is, he finally calls and she decided to move to India for him for a short time. The guy in the story is obviously no longer into his girlfriend once she arrives.
